Navy To Host Holy Cross In Patriot League Home Opener

Mids & Crusaders, Last Series
During the weekend of April 13-14, 2013, the Mids and Crusaders faced off in Worcester in a four-game series ... After falling twice on Saturday, 3-0 and 10-9, Navy fought back on Sunday with a pair of victories, 5-1 and 7-1 ... Overall, the Mids outscored the Crusaders, 43-28, outhit them .336 to .239 and posted nine steals on 10 attempts versus Holy Cross catchers ... On the mound, identical 1.29 ERAs by Luke Gillingham and Stephen Moore helped Navy's staff record a 3.82 ERA, while Holy Cross' pitchers posted a 4.78 ERA over the four games.
Offensively, Robert Currie (.462, 4 R, 3 SB), Brandon Beans (.375, 3 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB), Kash Manzelli (.353, 1 R, 2 2B, 5 RBI) and Brad Borosak (.286, 4 R, 3 RBI, 2 SB) were highlights amongst this year's returning Mids.
Stephen Moore, Luke Gillingham, Brad Borosak and Sam Sorenson led the pitching staff with a combined 1.02 ERA over 17.2 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts and 13 hits allowed. Moore and Gillingham collected wins, while Borosak earned a two-inning save in Sunday's Game 2.
Four Runs = Four Star Results
Over Navy's first 29 games a key stat has stood out for the Mids ... If the team scores four or more runs, it is 10-0 on the year ... In low-scoring pitching duels, the Mids have posted just a 4-15 mark.
Sophomore CF Robert Currie has been standout performer for the Mids throughout the season at the top of their batting order ... After starting 10 early games in the two-hole for Navy and hitting a modest .256 with three runs scored, a double and three stolen bases, he was elevated to the leadoff position before the March 8 game versus Monmouth and has never looked back ... Currie went 3-for-5 with the game-winning walkoff double versus the Hawks in his first game as the leadoff hitter ... Overall as the man atop the batting order, he is hitting .414 with 18 runs scored, 29 hits, four doubles, four triples, a home run, 14 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 19 games ... He has reached base safely in 18 of 19 contests, (14 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP)
Besides showcasing an astute batting eye over the first 29 games of the season, Robert Currie has also given Navy a top-notch speed option ... In the most recent NCAA rankings (Monday, March 31), Currie is the only player in Division 1 baseball to have 13 or more stolen bases and 4 or more triples ... He ranks 23rd overall with 13 steals and 10th with four triples.
You'll Have To Earn It ... No Free Passes
Stephen Moore has continued his mastery of the strike zone in 2014 action as the junior has
allowed just four walks over his first 46.2 innings pitched ... He allowed his first walk to Robbie Alessandrine of Monmouth in the 5th inning on March 8 ... In the entire NCAA Division 1 there are only 2 pitchers with 45 or more innings pitched and a better strikeout-to-walk ratio than Moore's 11.00 (44K:4BB).
