Navy Baseball to Host Throwback Day on April 14 versus Lehigh
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy baseball team will be turning the clocks back 125 years this coming Saturday as Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium will play host to a 1893 Throwback Day. With the doubleheader action on the field between the Mids and Lehigh Mountain Hawks beginning at 12 p.m., fans in attendance will experience a host of sights, sounds and foods from Navy's first collegiate season as part of Throwback Day.
Some of the special promotions associated with Throwback Day include free mauve-colored Navy Baseball tee-shirts to the first 100 fans in attendance to honor the 1890's, also known as the Mauve Decade. Fans coming to the doubleheader will also get free samples of cracker jacks, Lipton Tea and 1893-style Pepsi.
The videoboard will showcase famous paintings from 1893, as well as celebrate the birthdays of famous Americans born in 1893, while the public address system will intermittently play famous musical symphonies from the year.
Other happenings in 1893, include the U.S. Navy establishing the rank of Chief Petty Officer and the launching of the first battleship in the Navy comparable to foreign battleships of the time, the U.S.S. Indiana (BB-1).
