ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following a four-game weekend sweep of Lafayette, the Navy baseball team will be back in action with two midweek contests beginning on Tuesday afternoon. A matchup with the Towson Tigers (12-16) will be first up for the Mids (23-12) on Tuesday at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium before the team heads out on the road for a Wednesday tilt at Maryland Eastern Shore (7-23). Both games are slated for 3 p.m. first pitches.

The matchup with Towson will be the first of the season for Navy, while the Mids will be wrapping up their home-and-home series with the Hawks as they took a 17-5 victory in Annapolis on March 8. In that game a slow start put the Mids down 4-1 through two innings,  but the team went to its relief arms and got seven innings of one-run pitching, while its offense broke out with 15 combined runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings against the Hawks.

A balanced offensive showing versus Maryland Eastern Shore was led by CF Logan Knowles and Zach Biggers as Knowles went 3-for-3 with five runs scored and three stolen bases, while Biggers did his damage from the nine-spot in the batting order and went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three runs scored. In total, five different Mids had two RBI on Wednesday.

On the mound, Navy’s first arm out of the bullpen, Sean Kamhoot settled UMES’ offense down and hurled 4.0 innings of four-hit, shutout baseball. He was followed up out of the bullpen by the freshmen duo of Austin Rader and Thomas Wilson, who combined to close out the final three innings with one unearned run crossing for the Hawks.

Probable Pitchers

Navy is set to have sophomore LHP Rece Goodman and freshman RHP Nicholas Elder make starts over this two-game run with Goodman pitching on Tuesday and Elder on the road on Wednesday … Goodman will be making his third start of the 2017 season and eighth total appearance as he most recently hurled 3.0 innings of four-hit scoreless relief on April 4 … He has previously started versus Georgetown on Feb. 28 (2.0 IP, 5R/2ER, 2 K) and against New York Tech on March 19 (2.2 IP, 2R, 3 K) … Elder’s start will be the first of his young career as he’s appeared against New York Tech on March 18 (1.0 IP, 0 R, 1 K) and Coppin State (1.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 K) … Goodman has a 6.60 ERA over 15.0 innings pitched to go along with nine strikeouts, while Elder has a 0.00 ERA with 2.2 total innings on the mound.

Towson will counter Goodman with junior LHP David Marriggi … The southpaw will be making his second straight start in midweek competition as got the assignment on April 4 at George Mason and threw 4.0 hitless and scoreless innings … For the year, Marriggi has appeared in eight games with one start and thrown 19.0 innings with eight earned runs allowed for 3.79 ERA … He has a 16:16 strikeout-to-walk ration.

Maryland Eastern Shore is set to send Dwayne Marshall, a freshman right-hander out to mound on Wednesday … Over his nine appearances and one start (March 29 at Mount St. Marys, 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1K), Marshall has posted a 5.89 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 18.1 innings … His ERA is bloated after allowing 11 of his 12 earned runs in his first two appearances of the year.
