Navy Travels To Lafayette In Final Patriot League Road Series
Situated fifth and sixth in the Patriot League standings after two weeks of league play, the Navy baseball team will be looking to keep its strong recent play versus Lafayette going this weekend with a four-game set in Easton, Pa. ... Over the two program's last 10 games, Navy is 8-2 ... Last season in Annapolis, the Mids won three of four games, including two in extra innings ... Expect low scoring affairs, especially when the team's top two starters are on the mound as the Mids and Leopards each will roll out a pair of starters with ERAs at or under 2.60: Navy (Parenti - 1.13 and Moore - 2.32) and Lafayette (Bednar - 1.50 and Ortolf - 2.60)

During the weekend of April 20-21, 2013, the Mids and Leopards faced off in Annapolis in a four-game set ... The series opened with three straight extra-inning bouts; two 10-inning contests on Saturday and two extra frames on Game One of Saturday ... After all 38 innings were complete, Navy ended up with a 3-1 mark for the series ... Overall, the Mids outscored the Leopards, 18-12, outhit them .275 to .264 ... On the mound, the staff posted a 2.61 ERA that bested Lafayette's 3.96, while striking out 33 batters over 38 innings.
Offensively, Brandon Beans (.353, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 SB), Robert Currie (.333, 2 R, 4 RBI) and Kash Manzelli (.313, 3 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI) were highlights amongst this year's returning Mids.
On the strength of a combined six-hit shutout by Anthony Parenti (8.1 IP) and Brad Borosak (0.2), this season's returning Mids combined for a 1.44 ERA over 25.0 innings pitched. The five-man staff of Parenti, Borosak, Sam Sorenson (0.00, 2 IP), Stephen Moore (2.57, 7.0 IP) and Luke Gillingham (2.57, 7.0 IP) struck out 23 total batters during last season's match up.

Sophomore CF Robert Currie has been standout performer for the Mids throughout the season at the top of their batting order ... After starting 10 early games in the two-hole for Navy and hitting a modest .256 with three runs scored, a double and three stolen bases, he was elevated to the leadoff position before the March 8 game versus Monmouth and has never looked back ... Currie went 3-for-5 with the game-winning walkoff double versus the Hawks in his first game as the leadoff hitter ... Overall as the man atop the batting order, he is hitting .387 with 24 runs scored, 36 hits, four doubles, four triples, a home run, 14 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 10 games ... He has reached base safely in 24 of his last 25 contests, (18 H, 5 BB, 1 HBP)
Besides showcasing an astute batting eye over the first 35 games of the season, Robert Currie has also given Navy a top-notch speed option ... In the most recent NCAA rankings (April 10), Currie is the only player in Division 1 baseball to have 16 or more stolen bases and 4 or more triples ... He ranks 9th overall with 19 steals and 17th with four triples
