April 12, 2017

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Navy baseball team was recognized twice on Tuesday with Patriot League weekly awards as Adrian Chinnery (Sr., Wilmington, Del.) was named the Corvias Player of the Week, while Evan Lowery (Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) earned the Rookie of the Week honor. The duo garnered the accolades for their respective run of play versus Wofford, Coppin State and Lafayette over the past week.

After sitting out Navy’s first midweek contest versus Wofford on Tuesday, Chinnery hit the ground running with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with three RBIs against Coppin State on Wednesday. In the Mids’ four-game series with the Lafayette Leopards, Chinnery recorded six total hits with five going as doubles. In all five games, he tallied at least one hit and in four he recorded an RBI. For the week, the senior catcher hit .529 (9-17) with a .824 slugging percentage, five runs scored, five doubles and seven RBIs.

Chinnery was also selected by the Naval Academy Athletic Association as the NAAA Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Lowery is now a two-time Patriot League weekly award winner as he was named the league’s player of the week on March 21. The freshman DH participated in all six games for Navy last week and came away with hits in every game. His hits came in opportune times for the Mids as he also had RBIs in five of six games. Similar to Chinnery, Lowery had a penchant for extra-base hits over his six-game week, as he recorded four for the week with two doubles and two triples. For the week over six games, Lowery batted .375 (9-24) with a .625 slugging percentage, four run scored and seven RBIs. After a 3-for-5 showing at the plate in Tuesday afternoon’s contest versus Towson, Lowery has hits in 10 straight games.

As a team, this is Navy’s tenth weekly award through eight weeks of play. To date, Stephen Born (Player, Feb. 28), Noah Song (Pitcher, Feb. 28), Jacob Williamson (Rookie, Feb. 28) and Leland Saile (Player, March 7), Logan Knowles (Player, March 14), Zach Biggers (Rookie, March 14), Evan Lowery (Player, March 21), Leland Saile (Player, April 4) have all earned league recognition.

Senior pitcher Kyle Condry (Highland Village, Texas) was also acknowledged by the Patriot League on the conference’s honor roll for tossing his third consecutive complete game as he went 7.0 innings and allowed just one run on six hits in Navy’s 7-1 victory over Lafayette. The right-hander added eight strikeouts to his line versus the Leopards.

The Mids will continue their busy stretch of games with a 3 p.m. tilt on the road this afternoon at Maryland Eastern Shore. This coming weekend, Navy will head to Lehigh for a four-game Patriot League series with the Mountain Hawks over Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16.
