ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy will look to continue its high-level brand of winning baseball at home on Wednesday with a mid-week non-conference matchup versus George Mason. The contest between the Mids (29-12) and Patriots (16-20) is slated for 3 p.m. in Annapolis at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. Navy is currently on an 11-game win streak that is tied with Mercer and Jackson State as the top active mark in NCAA DI. This will be Navy and George Mason’s only meeting of 2017.

In 2016, Navy traveled to Fairfax on April 27. Explosive offense early on was the name of the game as Navy led 11-7 after two innings before both teams’ bullpens settled the action down and eventually retired the contest with a final score of 13-9. At the plate, Leland Saile, Matthew Wilcox and Logan Knowles led a balanced Navy offensive attack with six hits, five runs and four combined RBIs amongst the trio. Pitching-wise, Jackson Zoch, Andrew Bartek and Jett Meenach combined for 7.2 innings of two-run relief after the Patriots touched up the Mids first two pitchers for seven runs over the first 1.1 innings.

Probable Pitchers

Navy is planning to treat Wednesday’s game as a staff day for its pitchers with a number of hurlers scheduled to make appearances … Freshman RHP Nicholas Elder is the set to be the first Mid with a ball on Wednesday as he’ll be making his fourth appearance of 2017 and second start … Most recently, Elder pitched on April 12 at Maryland Eastern and threw the first four innings in the Mids’ 13-5 victory … He threw 42 pitches over 4.0 innings and allowed no runs to score with just two hits against.

George Mason is undecided on its starting pitcher as both LHP Brock Hunter and RHP Bryce Nightengale are under consideration … Hunter last pitched on April 12 versus Maryland when he started and went 4.1 innings and gave up five runs, while Nightengale threw 2.2 innings for the Patriots at Dayton on Saturday, April 15 … In 2017, Hunter has appeared in 11 games and thrown 33.1 innings; he’s posted a 1-3 record and 6.21 ERA with 29 strikeouts and a .350 opponents’ batting average … Nightengale’s season line is as follows: 1-3 with a 7.92 ERA and 21 strikeouts over 30.2 innings pitched; opponents are hitting .331 off the red-shirt sophomore.

Navy vs. George Mason

The Midshipmen are 17-14 all-time versus the Patriots in a series that dates back to 1975 … George Mason has won two of the last three meetings over a six-year span.
