Army and Navy to Meet in Pivotal Four-Game Series This Weekend
With only three games separating first place from fifth place in the Patriot League in the penultimate league weekend, Navy (28-14-1, 6-6 PL) hosts Army (20-16-1, 5-7 PL) in a crucial showdown on Saturday and Sunday. Navy, fourth in the league, comes into the weekend on a two-game winning streak after defeating George Mason, 6-5, on Tuesday and Delaware State, 15-7, on Wednesday. The Black Knights, one game behind Navy for fifth in the league, make the trip down to Maryland riding a seven-game winning streak, holding the opposition to one run in six of those victories. In addition, this weekend's series will determine who wins the Star, which goes to the team who wins the four-game set. If the series splits at two games apiece, the Star goes to the winner of the first game.

Turning It Around
Courtesy of a 28-14-1 record, the 2006 Midshipmen have won 16 more games than the 2005 Mids tallied with their 12-33-1 mark. The 16 victories above the previous year's total marks the largest improvement in Navy's 111-year program history. In addition, this year's record is 17.5 games ahead of last year's showing, which are only 6.5 games behind the greatest turnaround for any baseball program in NCAA history.

Most Victories Above Previous Year's Win Total

1.	16	2006 (28-14-1) vs. 2005 (12-33-1)
2.	10	1995 (34-20) vs. 1994 (24-18-1)
	10	1985 (25-7-1) vs. 1984 (15-15)
	10	1970 (20-7) vs. 1969 (10-9-1)

First-Year Success
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Paul Kostacopoulos, Navy has recorded 28 wins through its first-43 games. The 28 victories are the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history. Bob MacDonald picked up 24 wins in his first year at the helm of the baseball program in 1994, as that squad won the Patriot League Tournament and went on to compete in the NCAA Play-In series.

14 Games Above .500
After taking both mid-week games earlier in the week, Navy heads into this weekend's series with Army 14 games over .500. This marks the most games over the .500 mark in more than 10 years, with the last occurrence coming in 1995 season, as the Mids finished the year with a 34-20 record following a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Over The .500 Mark All Year
Standing at 28-14-1 on the year, Navy has spent the entire season above the .500 mark. The last time the Midshipmen ended their campaign with a record at or above .500 came in 2000, when the Mids posted a 24-20-1 (.544) record. The last time a Navy squad spent the entire season above the .500 mark was 1983, as that team finished the year with a 31-10-1 mark.

What a Difference a Year Makes!
With their 28 wins, the 2006 Midshipmen have surpassed their win total of the previous two seasons combined. Navy has bettered its marks in nearly every statistical category from last year, highlighted by a 48-point improvement in batting average, an ERA more than two runs lower and a 22-point improvement in fielding percentage.

Two Mids with 20 Steals
For only the second time in Navy's 111-year program history, the 2006 Mids boast two players with 20 or more stolen bases. Senior catcher Jonathan Johnston (Hamilton Township, N.J.) has stolen a program-record 35 bags this year and sophomore outfielder Renaldo Hollins (Virginia Beach, Va.) owns 20 stolen bases in 2006. The only other occurrence came in 2001, as John Cooca stole 24 bases and Brian Whitten swiped 20. In addition to Johnston and Hollins this year, senior outfielder Jared Munde (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) has 16 stolen bases this year. Never has there been a Navy team in program history that had three players with 20 or more stolen bases.

Midshipmen Active on the Basepaths
As a team, the Midshipmen have stolen 90 bases this year, ranking second in Navy's 111-year program history. The 2001 squad was successful in 112 of their 138 stolen base attempts to hold Navy's highest team total.

Keep the Opposition Under Seven Runs
The Midshipmen are 25-5 this season when holding opponents to six or fewer runs, with 18 of those wins as a result of Navy pitching limiting the opposition to three or fewer runs. Last year, the Mids were 11-12 when yielding six or fewer runs.
