Kyle Condry Named NAAA Athlete of the Week
April 25, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy freshman RHP Kyle Condry (Highland Village, Texas) has been named the Naval Academy Athlete of the Week, presented by Rolls Royce following his performance versus Lehigh last Sunday.
The Patriot League Rookie of the Week, Condry was dominant in his first collegiate start as he went the distance and did not give up an earned run for the Midshipmen in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Lehigh. Navy swept the weekend series and elevated itself into third place in the Patriot League standings.
After errantly having his name entered on the lineup card and not warming up as George Coughlin was presumed to be the starter, Condry came off the bench cold and promptly retired Lehigh 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning. After allowing an unearned run in the second, the freshman cruised versus the Patriot League's top-hitting offense and hurled a complete game with 102 pitches. Condry scattered five hits and a walk while striking out four versus the Mountain Hawks. He faced just two over the minimum in the last six innings on his way to his first career victory.
Beginning on Saturday, Navy will host Army in its final regular season Patriot League series of the season. The four-game series kicks off on Saturday with a 12 p.m. first pitch in front of a national television audience on CBS Sports Network. The slate of games will decide baseball's annual Star winner, as well as the two athletic department's overall Star Series, that currently sits tied at 11-11.
