ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy baseball team will play host to the Temple Owls at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Stadium in the Mids' final non-conference game of the season.

Navy (17-22-1) has won four of its last five games, including three out of four at Holy Cross last weekend in Worcester, Mass., outscoring the Crusaders in the series, 30-15. The Mids' bats have gotten hot lately, pushing the team batting average up to .289 with seven players hitting above .300. David Woolsey (Jr./Columbia, S.C.) is on a seven-game hitting streak and went 8-for-14 and scored six runs last week. John Cocca (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.) had a great week, going 8-for-19 with nine RBIs, a triple, a grand slam, and scored five runs.

Right-hander Matt Cooney (So./Mountaintop, Pa.) won his third straight game of the season in Navy's 6-4 win over Holy Cross last weekend. Cooney's 35 strikeouts and 3.56 earned-run average ranks atop the Navy pitching staff, which has dropped its ERA to 5.49.

Temple (17-21) has captured seven of its last eight games and is led offensively by senior Kyle Sweppenhiser. Sweppenhiser leads the Owls in batting average (.353), RBIs (36) and slugging percentage (.560). Senior Bob Filler is hitting .336 and leads Temple in runs scored (41), hits (46), doubles (11), and stolen bases (nine).

Left-hander Jeff Rugg has been the Owls' most effective pitcher with a 7-3 record and has struckout 42 batters. Greg Powell is 4-5 and has struckout a team-high 49 batters in 72.1 innings of work.
