Watch Long's Performance vs. Holy Cross

CENTREVILLE, Mass. - After earning Patriot League Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, Navy baseball southpaw Sam Long (Jr./Newnan, Ga.) was recognized as ECAC Co-Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

During Navy's 9-0 win over Holy Cross in game two on Saturday, Long was masterful on the mound. The Navy left-hander held the Crusaders, who entered the weekend hitting .329 as a team, scoreless over the nine innings with only five hits, all singles, and one walk allowed with two strikeouts. He was able to induce three groundball double plays en route to retiring Holy Cross on just 96 pitches.

Long's performance on Saturday was Navy first nine-inning complete-game shutout since March 10, 1998, when Ed Hoak blanked The Citadel. It was also his second shutout of the year, as he held UMBC scoreless on March 27 in a seven-inning game. His two shutouts tie him for seventh place on the program's all-time single-season list.

The Navy junior earned a share of the award with Long Island's Justin Topa, who threw a seven-inning, one-hit shutout against Monmouth. Long has earned ECAC weekly honors twice this season and three times during his career.

For the year, Long is 4-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 59.2 innings with only 57 hits and 10 walks allowed, in addition to 56 strikeouts. His 1.51 walks per nine innings this spring currently ranks him ninth on the program's all-time single-season list.

The Midshipmen (26-18) will return to action this Thursday as they head to Joe Cannon Stadium to take on Coppin State at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available via GameTracker on www.NavySports.com(.)
