Greg Dupell and Luke Gillingham were both honored by the Patriot League on Monday for helping the Midshipmen go 5-0 last week. Dupell was named the Patriot League Player of the Week and Gillingham the Rookie of the Week. The award is the first of the season and third of the career for Dupell, while Gillingham's honor is his second this year.
Dupell batted .526 (10-for-19) with seven runs scored, three doubles and four RBIs in Navy's five wins last week. Dupell scored at least one run in all four games against Lehigh, and had a hit in three of the four contests. The Tampa, Fla., native was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks in a 5-3 victory in the series opener on Saturday, and went 4-for-6 with three runs, two RBIs and a pair of doubles to lead Navy to a 12-5 win in Sunday's finale. The four hits tied a career high.
This season, Dupell is hitting .317 with a league-leading 37 RBIs.
Gillingham threw a nine-inning complete-game with a career-high 12 strikeouts to lead Navy to a 6-1 win over Lehigh on Saturday. The native of Coronado, Calif., allowed just one run on seven hits and a walk to win his third consecutive start. Gillingham's 12 strikeouts were the second-most by a Navy pitcher this season, topped only by Ben Nelson's 13 vs. Yale.
Gillingham is 4-3 with a 3.23 ERA this season.
Navy, which is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts George Washington at 4 p.m.
