Navy senior pitcher Johnny Schoberl was voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, it was announced by the conference on Tuesday. Schoberl was one of 11 baseball student-athletes to be named to the team which is voted on by the Patriot League's baseball sports information contacts.
Schoberl is an oceanography major and carries a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average. The native of Milford, N.J., has earned a spot on both the Superintendent's and Dean's Lists once during his time at the Naval Academy. He has also been named to the Commandant's List on four occasions.
On the field this season, Schoberl is one of two Navy pitchers to have started 10 games. The senior is 4-5 with a 6.02 ERA in 52.1 total innings, having picked up wins against UMES, Army, Delaware State and Lehigh.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
