CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three members of the Navy baseball team have received All-Patriot League honors, it was announced by the conference office today. Senior outfielder Alex Azor was named First-Team All-Patriot League, while junior third baseman Greg Dupell and sophomore starting pitcher Preston Gainey were both voted to the second team.

For Azor, it marks the second time in his career he has earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors as he was also voted to the team in 2010. Dupell was named to the league's second team last season as a first baseman, while Gainey's selection is the first of his career.

A total of 26 student-athletes garnered All-Patriot League honors as 12 were named to the conference's first team and 14 were voted to the second team.

Azor has been one of the team's most consistent hitters during his career. He enters play this weekend with a total of 209 career hits, which is the fifth-highest total in Navy history. This season, Azor overcame adversity early on as he was forced to miss 11 games due to an injury. The Miami, Fla., native bounced back strong though as he returned to the lineup on March 14 and went on to reach base safely in 27 consecutive games. His .340 batting average is fifth highest in the league and he ranks as the nation's 32nd-toughest hitter to strikeout with an average of one K per every 16 at-bats.

Azor proved to be one of the top hitters in league play all season. His 28 hits in conference games were tied for the most in the league and his .364 batting average against Patriot League foes was third best. He had perhaps his best day of the season on April 21 at Lafayette where he tied a career best with five RBIs in game one of a doubleheader, and then followed it by hitting his first-career home run in game two.

He enters play this weekend with a seven-game hitting streak and has at least one hit in 10 of the last 11 games.

Dupell cemented himself as one of the conference's premiere hitters this season as he enters this weekend with a league-leading 44 RBIs. His .331 batting average is sixth highest in the Patriot League and he ranks among the conference's top five in several offensive categories, including: total bases (100, first), runs (38, fifth), doubles (14, second), triples (6, first) and home runs (5, third).

The Tampa, Fla., native has been on a torrid streak of late as he has at least one hit in 18 of the last 19 games, producing 25 RBIs over the stretch. In his current 10-game hitting streak, Dupell is 16-for-34 (.471) with 11 RBIs.

Dupell was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on April 24 after hitting .524 with 11 RBIs in six games the previous week. This included producing seven hits and seven RBIs in a series sweep at Lafayette.

With five home runs this season, Dupell now has 12 for his career and ranks in a tie for ninth place on Navy's all-time home run chart.

In his first year as a starter, Gainey has gone 3-2 with a 3.54 ERA. All three of his wins have come in Patriot League play where he has an ERA of 2.30 and is holding opponents to a .216 batting average.

Preston Gainey

The sophomore earned his first-career victory as a starter with a complete-game performance at Bucknell on April 8 as he held the Bison to four hits and didn't allow an earned run. He improved to 2-2 on the year by scattering four hits and yielding just one earned run in 4 1/3 innings in an 8-2 win over Holy Cross on April 15. Gainey got his second complete-game win of the year at Lafayette on April 21 as he held the Leopards to just four hits and allowed only two earned runs.

The native of Pompano Beach, Fla., allowed three or fewer earned runs in eight of his nine starts this season.
