Manzelli Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
May 9, 2011
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A day after recording five RBIs in a 14-3 win, Navy freshman first baseman Kash Manzelli was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It is the first conference honor of Manzelli's career.
Manzelli posted a Navy-season high five RBIs as he went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 14-3 win over UMES. Making his seventh start of the season at first base, the Dunwoody, Ga., native drove in a run in four different plate appearances, including an RBI single in the fourth inning and a two-RBI single in the ninth.
Manzelli's five RBIs were the most by a Midshipman since April 17, 2010 when Jeff Bland drove in six runs in a win over Bucknell.
Navy, now 29-20-1 on the season, will host Delaware State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a final tune-up before the Patriot League Tournament begins on Saturday.
