The Navy baseball team will play host to the Patriot League Baseball Tournament for the second consecutive season. Navy, co-regular season champions with Bucknell, earned homefield advantage by winning three out of four games from the Bison during the regular season. The last two seasons, the third-seeded team has won the tournament. In 1999, Navy defeated top-seeded Bucknell, 13-9, to win the tournament and in 2000, Army swept the top-seeded Mids.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
In addition to hosting the tournament, Navy will receive a first-round bye this weekend. The first game of the tournament will feature second-seeded Bucknell against third-seeded Holy Cross, Saturday at noon. The winner of that game will advance to a best two-out-of-three series against the top-seeded Midshipmen, beginning Saturday afternoon. Game two of the series will be played Sunday at noon, with a third game to follow immediately if needed. All games played this weekend will be nine innings.
PATRIOT LEAGUE HISTORY
The Mids have captured at least a share of the Patriot League Regular Season Championship seven times since joining the league in 1993. In 1993 and 1994, the Mids were division champions and were co-champions in 1999 and 2001. Navy won the regular season title outright in 1995, 1998 and 2000. As for success in the tournament, the Mids have won three tournament titles (1994, 1998, 1999).
