2016 Patriot League Semifinal Rematch Awaits Navy and Bucknell
The Navy baseball team begins its Patriot League postseason title defense this weekend with a best-of-three semifinal series at home versus Bucknell at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium ... In a rematch of the 2016 Patriot League semifinal series, the top-seeded Mids (37-15, 16-4 PL) will host the fourth-seeded Bison (19-26, 10-10 PL) beginning on Saturday with a single nine-inning contest at 1 p.m. ... The Mids and Bison will play game two on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. with a potential ‘if necessary’ game three slated to begin 40 minutes afterwards ... All postseason games are scheduled for nine regulation innings.
Navy and Bucknell just met two weeks ago in the regular season with the Mids taking the series, 3-1.
The opposite side of the four-team bracket has the third-seeded Army Black Knights travelling to the second-seeded Holy Cross Crusaders ... The semfinal in Worcester will play two games on Saturday with the ‘if necessary’ contest scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ... The best-of-three championship finals will proceed May 19-20-21.

With a regular season title hanging in the balance for Navy and a berth on the line for Bucknell, the teams concluded their Patriot League regular season schedule on April 29-30 ... Before a national television audience on Saturday, the Mids fell by a 5-0 score in game one as the Bison’s starting pitcher Connor Van Hoose shut out Navy for the first time since March 25, 2015 ... The game one victory clinched a spot in the postseason for Bucknell ... The Mids responded emphatically over the next three games with a 5-4 walk-off win in game two on Saturday as Adrian Chinnery used a push bunt to score Jacob Williamson on a safety squeeze ... On Sunday, Navy rode 13.0 combined innings of stellar starting pitching by Kyle Condry and Andrew Sauer to breeze to 6-1 and 11-1 victories ... A 3-1 mark for the weekend gave Navy the outright 2017 Patriot League regular season championship ... Tied in with a 1-3 weekend by Holy Cross at Lafayette made the Mids’ margin of victory four games in the final standings ... The 16-4 mark in conference play was the best-ever by a Navy team since the Patriot League went to a 20-game schedule in 1996.
