Berkowitz, Murdza Named to League Academic Honor Roll

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy baseball rising seniors Jonathan Berkowitz (Parkland, Fla.) and Jeff Murdza (Hamilton, N.J.) were recognized among a group of 54 student-athletes named to the Patriot League Baseball Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced on Monday morning.
To be eligible for the honor roll, student-athletes must have attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 during the 2009 spring semester and earned a varsity letter during the 2009 season.
Berkowitz, an economics major, produced a 3.47 grade-point average during the spring. On the field, he batted .293 (39-for-133) with nine doubles, a triple, four home runs and 23 RBIs. On the mound, he saw action in three games, including a pair of mid-week starts.
Murdza, an oceanography major, earned a 3.47 grade-point average during the spring. On the mound, he went 1-1 with a 5.54 ERA over 12 appearances - three of which were starts. In 26.0 innings, he held the opposition to a .255 batting average and struck out 23 batters.
For the fourth-straight year, Navy (20-26-1, 8-12 PL) recorded at least 20 wins during the spring slate. The 20-win campaign was the 27th in the program's 114-year history.
