Baseball Places Seven Mids on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its 2017 Academic Honor Roll recently and seven members of the Navy baseball team were listed as recipients of the accolade. Rising senior Stephen Born headlines the group of honorees as the outfielder has now been named after each of his first three seasons as a Midshipmen. Scott Koscho, Leland Saile, Andrew Sauer, Gabe Schilke, Trey Seabrooke and Matthew Wilcox round off the qualified Midshipmen, who recorded a 3.20 or better grade-point average during the spring semester.
Seven student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll tie the 2013 and 2014 teams for most honorees in a single-year in Navy program history.
Born, a three-year starter for the Mids as both an outfielder and at DH, caps his 2017 season with his third consecutive appearance on the league’s academic honor roll. A leading member of Navy’s cause both on and off the field, Born was named as a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American on June 2. The national honor was the second in-a-row for Born as he was named to the third team in 2016, as well. The Strafford, Pa. native posted a 4.00 GPA in Operations Research this past spring semester.
Koscho, Sauer and Wilcox are also multi-year honorees as the trio of rising juniors all took home the award in 2016 following their freshmen seasons. This spring, Koscho, a DH for the Mids, recorded a 3.38 GPA in economics, while Sauer, a starting pitcher and economics major turned in a 3.41 GPA. Wilcox tied Born for highest semester grade as the middle infielder notched a 4.00 GPA in economics.
Saile (Economics, 3.31 GPA), Schilke (Ocean Engineering, 3.82 GPA) and Seabrooke (Quantitative Economics, 3.59 GPA) are all first-time honorees.
In total, 72 student-athletes from six programs were named to the 2017 Patriot League Baseball Academic Honor Roll.
