Navy Places Five Players on the Patriot League All-Academic Baseball Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa.-- Seniors Brad Deafenbaugh, Dan Falkner and Scott Vane, along with sophomores Steve Goocey and Will Mahan were named to the Patriot League All-Academic team. To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average during the semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the League-sponsored championship sports during the winter and spring.

A total of 496 student-athletes were named to the League's Spring Academic Honor Roll, including 31 with 4.00 GPAs or better. The Spring Academic Honor Roll which includes the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's track & field (indoor and outdoor), baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis and golf.

The Patriot League, which was founded on the principles of admitting athletes who are academically representative of their class, is in its second decade of academic and athletic achievement. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education. The Patriot League began as a successful Division I-AA football conference in 1986. Full League members include American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Associate members include Fairfield (field hockey), Fordham (football), Georgetown (football), Hobart (men's lacrosse), Towson (football), Ursinus (field hockey) and Villanova (women's lacrosse). These member institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation. Alumni from Patriot League colleges and universities have played a leadership role in the shaping of our country.
