Ron Ginyard is in his third year as an assistant coach at Navy.

Ginyard spends time during the season scouting opponents for game preparation, while also serving as a relentless recruiter on the road.

Ginyard has brought in wave after wave of talent to Annapolis and this year's recruiting class was highly-regarded in the Patriot League. In addition, Ginyard has secured games in the 2KSports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer and the BB&T Classic, as Navy's chief schedule-maker for the 2010-11 season.

In 2009-10, Ginyard helped the Midshipmen to a 13-17 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the Patriot League at 7-7. The Mids were once again near the top of the Patriot League in scoring and the Mids' three-guard attack of Chris Harris, Jordan Sugars and O.J. Avworo were among the highest-scoring guard trios in the country, averaging over 44 points per game between them. Navy finished in the top three in five different categories in the Patriot League while ranking 21st and 98th nationally in three-pointers made per game and free throw percentage, respectively.

Two years ago, Ginyard helped the Midshipmen to a 19-11 overall record, equaling the most wins for the Navy program since the 1999-00 season. On the court, the team continued to flourish, leading the league in scoring again and ranking high nationally in field goal percentage defense and free throw percentage while starting essentially a four-guard lineup for the second straight season.

Ginyard is no stranger to the area, growing up in Alexandria, Va.

"I grew up in the area, so I knew about the prestige and tradition of Navy basketball," said Ginyard, whose father is a retired Marine Master Sergeant, while his father-in-law is a retired Navy Commander. "Just the chance to move back to the area and be around family was a major plus."

Ginyard came to Navy after spending one year in the same capacity at The Citadel.

The Citadel, the youngest team in the country with 14 freshmen on the roster two year ago, posted a 6-24 record, but its style of play was similar to Navy's. The Bulldogs set school records for most three-pointers made and attempted and ranked in the top 20 nationally in both categories. Ginyard was instrumental in the development of the Southern Conference's Freshman of the Year Cameron Wells, who was joined on the Southern Conference All-Freshman team by Austin Dahn.

Ginyard joined the Citadel staff after spending one year as the director of basketball operations at Columbia, where he helped the Lions to a 16-12 record in 2006-07, their best record in 13 years.

Prior to his time at Columbia, he served a four-year stint at Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Va., where he was the first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. During his time at Bishop O'Connell, he coached and recruited 13 players that played college basketball, while earning 107 wins, the program's first Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title, three consecutive Alhambra Catholic Invitational titles and three Virginia Independent School State titles. Currently, several of Ginyard's student-athletes are playing at the collegiate level, most notably his brother, Marcus, at North Carolina and David Neal of Maryland.

Ginyard served as a coach and league commissioner at Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp, run by legendary Hall of Fame coach Morgan Wootten and his son Joe Wootten, for seven weeks during the summers of 2002-06. He coordinated daily schedules and skill development for more than 800 campers per summer and also conducted evening clinics on various fundamental skills. Ginyard also worked summer camps at North Carolina, Duke and St. Bonaventure.

Ginyard is a 2006 graduate of Georgetown University where he earned a bachelor's degree in government. He played a year of collegiate basketball at Pace University after a stellar high school career at Paul VI Catholic High School.

Ginyard and his wife, Therese, reside in Bowie.
