FRESHMAN (2011): Avila had one of the top statistical seasons by a freshman in school history, ranking second on the team in scoring (11.5), rebounding (5.3), assists (74) and free throw percentage (.829), was first in steals (54) and third in three-pointers made (53) and blocks (18) ... led all Patriot League freshmen in scoring, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals and blocks ... his 357 points were the third most by a freshman in school history, and he became just one of four freshmen, and the first since Vernon Butler in 1983, to average 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg ... was the only freshman in Navy history to average 10.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 2.0 apg ... was one of four freshmen nationally to average 10.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 2.0 apg ... on the Navy freshmen list, Avila ranks in the top 10 in points (3rd), points per game (5th), field goals made (3rd), field goal attempts (1st), three-pointers made (2nd), three-point attempts (1st), free throws made (9th), free throw percentage (4th), rebounds (6th), rebounds per game (7th), assists (7th), assists per game (10th), blocked shots (7th), steals (2nd), games played (5th), minutes played (3rd) and double-figure scoring games (3rd) ... won eight Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards (the fourth most in league history), while winning five straight awards (the second-longest streak in league history) ... recorded two double-doubles, including a 21-point, 11-rebound, five-assist performance against NCAA Tournament qualifier Long Island U. ... added 13 points and 12 rebounds against Lehigh for his second double-double ... had a big game in Navy's first win of the season, coming against Neumann, scoring 10 points with six rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals ... then broke out with a 31-point, six-rebound, five-steal performance against Towson ... the 31 points were the second most by a Navy freshman in school history ... tallied 24 points with five rebounds in a 72-53 win over American ... during the win over the Eagles, Avila connected on six three-pointers, equaling the most by a freshman in school history ... also scored over 20 points in games against Bucknell (20) and Lehigh (22) ... had a monster game in Navy's first win over Army, scoring 17 points with eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal ... then added seven points, nine rebounds and five assists in Navy's Star Game win ... averaged 12.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 4.5 apg in Navy's two wins over Army ... in the Patriot League Tournament loss to Lehigh, scored nine points with nine rebounds, six assists and three steals ... in three games against Lehigh, Avila averaged 14.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 3.7 apg ... netted 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a win over Longwood and had a stretch of nine games from Dec. 30 to Jan. 26, where he averaged 16.6 ppg and 5.2 rpg while shooting 54-of-115 (.470) from the field ... made 17 straight free throws to start his career, including a 9-of-9 effort against Towson ... in the Patriot League ranks, Avila was 17th in scoring, 14th in rebounding, 14th in assists, second in steals, 11th in three-pointers made and 11th in blocked shots.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2010 graduate of McAllen High School, Avila had a sensational high school career ... ranked as the 34th-best player in Texas, according to ... was named to the Class 5A Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-state team, one of 20 players named to the squad ... averaged 21.6 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.6 steals as a senior ... a four-year varsity starter for McAllen, Avila departed as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,865 career points ... high school coach Roy Swift was quoted as saying, "I have no reservation in saying he's the best player in this school's 100-year basketball history." ... in addition to all-state honors, also earned all-district accolades and team MVP honors ... was named Class 5A District 30's MVP ... was also recruited by the University of Texas-San Antonio, Wright State, Davidson, The Citadel, Colgate and Army among others ... recorded close to a 4.0 GPA during high school.
