Midshipmen Drop Patriot League Opener At Home

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Reserve Jason Vegotsky scored a career-high 19 points to lead four Bucknell players in double figures in a 74-52 victory over Navy on Saturday. Donald Brown added 12 points for the Bison (10-3, 1-0 Patriot League), who outscored Navy 36-7 during a decisive 14-minute stretch. Chris McNaughton scored 11 points, and John Griffin had 10. Bucknell snapped its first two-game losing streak since January 2005. Vegotsky, a freshman guard, was 5-for-8 from 3-point range and teamed with Brown and Griffin to give Bucknell a 41-13 advantage in bench points. Navy took a 23-19 lead on a 3-pointer by Kaleo Kina with 6:59 remaining in the first half. The Bison responded with a 20-3 run to take a 39-26 lead at halftime. Griffin and Vegotsky both hit a pair of 3-pointers in the spurt. Bucknell opened the second half with a 16-4 run to build a 55-30 lead with 13:32 remaining. Kina scored 12 points to lead the Midshipmen (6-7, 0-1), who started a four-guard lineup without center Matt Fannin, who suffered a knee injury Tuesday. Navy was outrebounded 47-30 and outscored 30-16 in the paint.
Corey Johnson, playing for the first time since injuring his knee on Nov. 27, added 10 points for Navy.
