NEW YORK (AP) - Avery Patterson scored 15 points and St. John's routed Navy 72-49 in the final of the New York regional of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Saturday night.

Lamont Hamilton and Eugene Lawrence each added 10 points for the Red Storm (2-0), who will meet Maryland on Thursday night in the national semifinals at Madison Square Garden.

Kaleo Kina led the Middies (1-1) with 15 points. He had seven points as Navy went on a 9-4 run 4:31 into the game. The Middies increased the advantage to 21-12 on Bryce Brigham's layup with 10 minutes left in the half.

The Red Storm took command with an 18-2 rally that gave them a 30-23 lead with 2:21 left in the half. Patterson, who had six points in the stretch, closed out the surge with a 3-point basket.

Patterson, the game's MVP, and Larry Wright each had six points in a 25-9 run that turned the game into a rout, 60-34, with 8:24 left in the game.
