Navy Hits the Road for the First Time in League Play on Wednesday at Lehigh
After starting the league season with a victory for the first time in eight years, the Navy men's basketball team will hit the road for its next two games, starting Wednesday night at Lehigh. The game will tip off at 7:00 pm (ET) will be broadcast by WNAV (1430 AM) with Pete Medhurst calling the action, starting at 6:45 pm with the Navy basketball pregame show.
Winners of four straight games, Navy enters the contest with a 12-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Patriot League after defeating Bucknell, 71-67, on Saturday night.
For the third straight game, Kaleo Kina (25), Chris Harris (14), Clif Colbert (12) and Adam Teague (11) all scored in double figures. Colbert added a career-best nine rebounds, joining Teague and Mark Veazey for the team rebound lead. Kina added four assists and Harris grabbed three steals.
The only other team in the league with double-digit victories, Lehigh is 10-5 on the season and 0-1 in the Patriot League after dropping a 76-66 overtime decision at American on Saturday.
Lehigh led by as many as 10 points in the first half against the Eagles, then rallied down the stretch to send the game into overtime.
Lehigh has lost two straight games (to Princeton and American) after winning five straight games from Dec. 8 to Jan. 2. Lehigh also owns the league's only win over a BCS foe (Rutgers on Nov. 26).
Navy is 1-0 in league play for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Navy has opened 1-0 in league play seven other times (in 18 years). In years that Navy won its league opener, the Mids finished 5th, T-1st, 1st, 1st, T-2nd, T-1st and 2nd.
Navy has not started 2-0 in league play since the same 2000-01 season. Navy is looking for its fifth 2-0 start in 18 years of Patriot League play.
Navy is 4-4 in games away from Annapolis this year. In Patriot League road openers, Navy is 5-12 and hasn't won since the 1999-00 season.
Navy is sporting its second winning streak of at least four games. The Mids' current four-game run comes on the heels of a seven-game streak (Nov. 16 to Dec. 5).
Navy's 11 non-conference wins equaled the most for the program since joining the Patriot League in 1991-92. The 1998-99 and 1999-00 teams also won 11 non-conference games.
Navy is 8-0 at home this year, and the eight-game winning streak is the fourth-longest streak in Alumni Hall history.
Navy is leading the league in scoring at 73.5 ppg. Navy has led the league in scoring in three of the last four years.
Two of the three top scorers in the Patriot League wear Navy uniforms. Kaleo Kina leads the league at 19.6 ppg, and Chris Harris is third at 15.9 ppg. In addition, Adam Teague is 13th at 10.9 ppg.
Navy returns to the Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Jan. 17, for a 1:00 pm contest at Lafayette in Easton, Pa. Lafayette enters Wednesday's game with Colgate with a 4-11 overall record (0-1 PL).
