The annual Navy men’s basketball alumni game will be played on Saturday at 3:30 PM at Alumni Hall. Admission is free to the game. Fans attending the game must have a military ID to drive on to the Naval Academy grounds. If you do not have a military ID, you can take the free shuttle bus from the press box side of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium starting at 3 PM. There is a $5 charge to park at the stadium.

Twenty-five former players will be coming back for the game, including 20 that will be playing in the contest.

The Blue team will feature seven players that led Navy to at least one NCAA Tournament appearance. Bill Hoover (’54) led Navy to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments in 1953 and 1954. In 1954, the Mids defeated Connecticut, 85-80, and Cornell, 69-67, before losing to LaSalle, 64-48, in the Elite 8.

Michael Heary (’98), Ryan Lookabill (’98), Matt Sladky (’98), Skip Victor (’99) and Mike Wall (’99) helped lead Navy to back-to-back Patriot League titles and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1997 and 1998. The Mids were 39-20 over that two-year span, including a 20-4 mark in the Patriot League. John Williams (’01) was a freshman on the 1998 NCAA Tournament team and helped lead Navy to the Patriot League Championship game in 2001.

Rounding out the Blue team is James Sprungle (’93), Jason Jeanpierre (’03) and Ben Biles (’08).

The Gold team will feature seven players from the 1994 NCAA Tournament team that will be back for its 20-year reunion. That team will be honored at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Holy Cross.

Navy went 17-13 in 1994 and finished 9-5 in the Patriot League. The Mids started that season 5-10, but finished the year winning 12 of its final 15 games after head coach Don DeVoe inserted freshman point guard Brian Walker into the line-up.

After starting 0-3 in the Patriot League, Navy won nine of its final 11 conference games to finish in a four-way tie for first place. Navy defeated Army (96-84), Holy Cross (93-91 in overtime) and Colgate (78-76) to win the Patriot League Tournament before falling to Missouri (76-53) in the NCAA Tournament.

Returning Saturday to play in the Alumni game from that team will be Walker (’97), who also played on the 1997 NCAA Tournament team, Wes Cooper (’95), Kico Eaton (’96), Larry Green (’95), Jimmy Hamilton (’96), Scott Holden (’97) and Randy Torgrimson (’97). Emmett Davis, who was an assistant coach on that team as well as NCAA Tournament teams in 1987, 1997 and 1998, will return to coach the Gold team and Ryan Torgrimson (’95) will also be attending, but is not playing.

Also playing for the Gold will be Jim Savard (’65), Quintrell McCreary (’03) and Josh Height (’98), who played in the 1997 and 1998 NCAA Tournament teams.

Mike Cunningham (’01), Craig Etka (’65), Dave Hopkins (’98) and Leo Latonick (’77) will also be coming back for the Alumni Game, but will not play.
