Michael Heary ('98) scored 11 second half points to lead the Blue Squad to a thrilling 65-64 overtime victory over the Gold squad in the annual Navy Men's Basketball Alumni Game on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall. It was the first overtime game in the history of the Alumni game.
The Gold team, which was mostly made up of players from Navy's 1994 Patriot League regular season and tournament championship team, led by as many as 11 points in the first half as Randy Torgrimson ('97) was knocking down three-point field goals and the inside duo of Wes Cooper ('95) and Josh Height ('98) were dominating inside.
The Blue team heated up in the second half behind Heary's three three-point field goals. Mike Wall ('99) and Ryan Lookabill ('98) also knocked down huge three-pointers during the Blue's rally. All told, the Blue team drained 11 three-pointers in the game, while the Gold team made six.
Wall joined Heary in double figures with 10, while Lookabill added nine and Jason Jeanpierre ('03) and John Williams ('01) had seven points each. Skip Victor ('99) and Ben Biles ('08) added six points apiece, while Josh Hill ('01) scored four points, Matt Sladky ('98) had three points and James Sprungle ('93) chipped in two. The most impressive performance by the Blue squad though was from Bill Hoover ('54), who earned the start and played several minutes on two separate occasions. Hoover just missed making a three-pointer.
Torgrimson led the Gold squad with a game-high 16 points, while Cooper added 13 and Height 12. Jimmy Hamilton ('96) chipped in 10 points, while Quintrell McCreary ('03) added five points, Scott Holden ('97) scored four points, Larry Green ('95) added three points and Brian Walker ('97) scored one.
