Patriot League Release
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy senior guard Chris Harris has been named the Patriot League / Anaconda Player of the Week for the third time this year and fourth time in his career. Navy players have now won two straight Player of the Week awards (O.J. Avworo last week) and six of the 14 weekly honors handed out this year.
Since the start of last year, Navy players have won 11 of the 30 Player of the Week awards dealt out by the Patriot League.
Harris averaged 32.5 ppg in helping the Mids to a split on the road against the Lehigh Valley schools, Lehigh and Lafayette, last week. In last Wednesday's 85-78 win over Lehigh, Harris erupted for a career-high 40 points, the most scored by a Navy player in a Patriot League game. Harris went 10-of-21 from the field, including 8-of-14 from the three-point line, and 12-of-13 from the free throw line. Harris' 40 points were the most since David Robinson scored 50 points against Michigan in the 1987 NCAA Tournament (March 12, 1987), and the 11th most in school history. The 40 points were the most for a Patriot League player in almost five years and were the 11th most in the country this season. In addition, his eight three-pointers tied for the third most in a game in school history, matching the eight he made last year against Final Four-bound Villanova.
Then in last Saturday's contest against Lafayette, Harris added 25 points with seven rebounds and four steals in just 24 minutes. During the contest, he became the second player in school history (Kaleo Kina, 2006-09) with 1,500 points, 250 assists and 150 steals in a career.
Harris is one of 18 players nationally to score in double figures in every game this year and his 25-game double-figure scoring streak is the fifth-longest streak in school history.
Harris now has four 30-point games this year, becoming the sixth Navy player in school history to record four or more 30-point games in a season.
Harris leads the Patriot League, and ranks tied for 11th nationally, in scoring at 21.6 ppg. He also leads the league in three-pointers made per game (3.00) and steals (1.8 spg) and is second in free throw percentage (.885). His 75 three-pointers this year are tied for the fifth most in a season in school history, needing just two more to own the top three single-season marks for three-pointers made (91 in 2008, 85 in 2009). His 164 free throws made rank as the fourth most nationally (through Sunday's games).
For his career, Harris ranks seventh in Navy history in career points (1,542 points), fourth in career steals (160) and 11th in career assists (250). His 275 career three-pointers are a school record and rank fifth on the all-time Patriot League chart.
Harris and his teammates will host Holy Cross in a key Patriot League battle on Wednesday night in Alumni Hall, beginning at 7:00 pm. Fans with unripped tickets from the Colgate (Jan. 31) and Bucknell (Feb. 5) can use those tickets for either Wednesday's game with Holy Cross or next week's (Feb. 24) game with American.
