Wednesday's Game Basics
The Navy men's basketball team (9-16, 4-10 PL) will seek a second-straight conference win when playing at Lehigh (13-14, 6-8 PL) on Wednesday at Stabler Arena at 7:00 PM.
The game will be televised in the Lehigh Valley area on Service Electric 2 Sports. Free live video of the game will also be available on the Patriot League Digital Network and live radio can be heard on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM with Pete Medhurst on the play-by-play.
Navy is coming off a 71-61 win over Colgate on Saturday.
Junior guard Brandon Venturini had 19 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals in the win.
Junior forward Worth Smith added 16 points, three rebounds and three blocks.
The Mids are currently tied for eighth place in the Patriot League with Lafayette at 4-10 and are one game behind seventh-place Loyola (5-9).
Navy won its second game over its last three contests and the Mids are shooting the ball much better over the last 10 days.
Navy shot 38.3 percent (469-1223) from the field in its first 22 games of the season, but has shot 50.3 percent (77-153) from the field in its last three.
Navy shot 31.4 (143-456) on 3-pointers in its first 22 games, but has shot 49.2 (29-59) in its last three.
Smith leads Navy with 11.6 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Venturini is second on the team with 11.0 points per game and averages a team-best 2.5 assists.
Freshman guard Zach Fong has made a 3-pointer in 10-straight games.
Fong leads all Patriot League freshmen in 3-pointers made per game (1.9) and 3-point field goal percentage (.421).
Venturini leads the team with 46 3-pointers and Fong has made 45.
With Navy's nine overall wins, head coach Ed DeChellis has increased his win total in each of his first three years at Navy. The Mids won three games in 2012 and eight in 2013.
With its four conference wins, Navy has doubled its 2013 total of two.
Navy has made at least one three-pointer in 330 consecutive games.
Navy has an all-time record of 1,315-980 (.573).
Lehigh (13-14, 6-8) is coming off back-to-back losses to American (64-44) and Holy Cross (72-67).
Lehigh currently sits in sixth place in the Patriot League and is two games up on Navy.
Senior Mackey McKnight leads Lehigh in points per game (13.7) and assists per game (6.1).
Patriot League Rookie of the Year candidate Tim Kempton leads the team in rebounds (6.6) and is second in scoring (13.1).
Kempton has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week a conference-best five times.
Freshman guard Austin Price averages 8.9 points and has made a team-best 48 3-pointers.
Lehigh knocked off first-place Boston U. in overtime on February 1, but has gone just 1-3 since.
Series History vs. Lehigh
Navy leads the all-time series against Lehigh, 44-25, but Lehigh has won eight-straight games in the series.
Navy owns an 18-8 lead in games played in Bethlehem, but Lehigh has won the last four games played at Stabler.
Lehigh defeated Navy earlier this season in overtime, 68-66, in Annapolis on January 22.
Mackey McKnight scored the game-winning layup with 1.1 seconds left in overtime.
McKnight also scored the game-tying layup with 19 seconds left in regulation.
Navy's Worth Smith had a career-day against Lehigh in January.
The junior forward scored a career-high 26 points and had seven rebounds and a career-best five steals.
Navy will play its final regular-season road game at Holy Cross on Sunday at 12 noon.
Holy Cross defeated Navy, 67-52, in Annapolis on January 25.
The Crusaders lead the all-time series 38-18.
Holy Cross enters Wednesday's game against Lafayette in third place in the Patriot League with a 10-4 record.
Navy will close the regular season with two home games next week against American and Loyola.
