Smith Named to Patriot League Men's Basketball All-Rookie Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy men's basketball freshman Worth Smith was honored as a Patriot League All-Rookie Team member, the league office announced on Monday morning. Smith becomes the 17th Navy player to win all-Rookie Team honors from the Patriot League and joins Isaiah Roberts as active Navy players to be honored on the all-Rookie Team.
For the season, Smith averaged 6.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game while contributing 22 assists, 22 blocks and 21 steals while shooting 43.9 percent from the field. Among the league freshmen, Smith ranked third in scoring (6.8), first in rebounding (5.1), first in blocked shots (22), third in steals and ninth assists. His 2.2 offensive rebounds per game were third most in the Patriot League in all games played among all players.
In the 14 Patriot League games, Smith averaged 6.9 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game to rank fourth and first respectively among the league's freshmen. Sixteen of his 22 blocked shots came in Patriot League play to rank fifth among all players in blocked shots and he was first among all players in offensive rebounds per game.
Smith, a 6-5 forward from Mooresville, N.C., could become the first Navy freshman in school history to score 200 points, grab 150 rebounds, dish out 20 assists, block 20 shots and snare 20 steals. He currently has 189 points, 144 rebounds, 22 assists, 22 blocks and 21 steals. Smith currently ranks 21st on the Navy freshman list for points scored (189), ninth on the rebounds list (144) and fifth on the blocked shots list (22). He owns three double-doubles this season, all of them coming in Patriot League play against Holy Cross (13 p, 10 r), Colgate (10 p, 10 r) and Army (12 p, 11 r).
Smith and his teammates will travel to Bucknell on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the Patriot League men's basketball tournament. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg, Pa., and tickets are still available by calling 577-570-1000 or in person at the Weis Center Box Office on Bucknell's campus during business hours.
