ANNAPOLIS, Md.-The Naval Academy had nine athletic teams publicly recognized by the NCAA for a high academic progress report according to NCAA data released this afternoon. The nine teams ranked as the fifth most among Football Bowl Subdivision schools. Duke led the way with 15 teams, while Notre Dame had 14, Boston College 13 and Northwestern 10.

The NCAA is honoring sports teams with public recognition awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate scores. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 965 to a perfect 1,000.

Naval Academy athletic teams recognized by the NCAA include:  men's basketball, men's gymnastics, men's tennis, men's indoor track & field, rifle, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's crew and women's volleyball.
