Eleven Named To Men's Basketball Academic Honor Roll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Navy senior center Michael Cunningham recorded a perfect 4.00 grade-point average (GPA) during the spring semester and was among the 11 student-athletes named to the 2001 Patriot League Men's Basketball Academic Honor Roll, announced today by Carolyn Schlie Femovich, Patriot League Executive Director.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average during the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the League-sponsored championship sports during the winter and spring.
A total of 582 student-athletes were named to the League's Spring Academic Honor Roll, including 28 with 4.00 GPAs or better. The Spring Academic Honor Roll which includes the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's track & field (indoor and outdoor), baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis and golf.
Bucknell led the way with 156 candidates on the League's Spring Academic Honor Roll. On the Men's Basketball Academic Honor Roll, Lehigh led with three players. The Patriot League, which was founded on the principles of admitting athletes who are academically representative of their class, is in its second decade of academic and athletic achievement. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education. The Patriot League began as a successful Division I-AA football conference in 1986. Full League members include American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Associate members include Fairfield (field hockey), Fordham (football), Georgetown (football), Hobart (men's lacrosse), Towson (football), Ursinus (field hockey) and Villanova (women's lacrosse). These member institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation. Alumni from Patriot League colleges and universities have played a leadership role in the shaping of our country.
