ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy men's basketball head coach Ed DeChellis has announced that seven commitments, including four from Virginia, are currently participating in plebe summer activities and have joined the Navy men's basketball team for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The class features players from four states and fills every position on the roster.

"As a whole, we were able to recruit every position and are able to fill all five spots on the floor with this group," said Navy head coach Ed DeChellis, who is entering his second season at Navy with this being his first recruiting class after he was hired late in the spring of 2011. "We were able to also add some guys that are versatile and are able to play multiple positions. I think its a good first recruiting class that has some athleticism and skill and we hope that they are able to contribute to our program immediately."

The group joins a Navy program that will have no seniors on the roster after having just three seniors on the roster during the 2011-12 season, making it once again one of the youngest teams in America. DeChellis also stressed the need to bring in shooters and he felt the coaching staff accomplished that with this group.

"We can't change the past and the lack of class structure in our program. Our goal is to bring in solid classes that will help us build a foundation from the ground up. This group, along with the returnees, will help us ensure that our base is sound and stable," said DeChellis. "We really need to improve our shooting and we feel we have brought in guys that can do that."

DeChellis will welcome back two starters (sophomore Worth Smith and junior Isaiah Roberts) and eight letterwinners from last year's squad.
