Navy to Play in the Homewood Suites FGCU Shootout
Navy will open the tournament by playing St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, Nov. 24 at 4:00 PM. The following day (Saturday, Nov. 25) Navy will face host FGCU at 7:00 PM. The Mids will close the tournament by playing Denver on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 12 noon.
All six games of the Homewood Suites FGCU Shootout will be played in Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla.
Navy is 6-2 in the all-time series against St. Francis Brooklyn. The Terriers were 4-27 overall last season and 2-16 in the Northeast Conference.
Navy will be playing FGCU for the first time in series history. The Eagles were 26-8 overall last season and 12-2 in the Atlantic Sun. FGCU went to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the past five years in 2016-17 and were a No. 14 seed.
Navy holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series against Denver. The Pioneers were 16-14 overall last season and 8-8 in Summit play.
Navy will be competing in a three-day, three-game tournament for the third straight season. Navy won the Spartan Showcase in 2015-16 and competed in the HPU Tournament last year.
The rest of Navy’s 31-game 2017-18 schedule was released earlier this month. Navy will open the season by hosting Pittsburgh in the Veterans Classic on Friday, Nov. 10 at 9:00 PM. Alabama and Memphis will meet in the opening game of the Veterans Classic at 6:30 PM.
Navy was 16-16 overall in 2016-17 and 10-8 in the Patriot League under head coach Ed DeChellis. The Mids advanced to the Patriot League Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2001. Navy returns its top five scorers from last season in senior guard Shawn Anderson, senior guard Bryce Dulin, junior point guard Hasan Abdullah, junior forward George Kiernan and senior forward Tom Lacey.
