Navy has won four games in a row after a season-opening loss to Towson and are looking to remain undefeated at Alumni Hall, while winning its 150th game all-time in the facility. Navy is 4-1 overall, while Radford is 2-2, with its losses coming to Virginia and William & Mary.
Saturday's game will air on WNAV (1430 AM) and SIRIUS (Channel 113), beginning at 6:45 pm with the Navy basketball pregame show. The game will also be streamed online via Navy All-Access at www.NavySports.com. Pete Medhurst will handle the call for the contest.
Team Update
Navy appears to have righted the ship after a lackluster effort in the season-opening loss to Towson. Navy has won four straight games, thanks to strong defensive efforts in games against Howard, St. Francis (N.Y.), William & Mary and Maryland-Eastern Shore. Over the last four games (regulation only), Navy has held its foes to 82-of-215 (.381) from the field and just 235 points (58.8 per game). Navy has held three foes already to 63 or fewer points this year after accomplishing the feat just six times all of last year.
Navy has taken over the league lead in scoring offense, thanks to a 102-point effort against William & Mary. The Mids, who have led the league in scoring in three of the last four years, are aveaging 77.4 points per game, leading second-place Lehigh (71.0) by over six points a game.
One area that Navy has really improved on since last year is in the rebounding department. Navy has outebounded two of its five opponents by double-digit margins (Towson and William & Mary), been even with another foe (St. Francis) and lost by two on the glass to Howard. UMES topped the Mids by eight rebounds on the glass.Navy is outrebounding foes, by an average of 3.0 per game, and has grabbed an average of 14.0 offensive rebounds per game, resulting in 60 second-chance points (12.0 ppg).
The rebounding effort has helped Navy dominate the paint so far this year, outscoring foes, 146-116, an average of 6.0 points per game. Last year, Navy was outscored in the paint, 887-746, an average of over five points per game.
Over the last three games, Navy has recorded 49 assists to 41 turnovers for a ratio of 1.20. In the first two games, Navy had 20 assists against 32 turnovers (0.63 ratio).
Navy is shooting 40.3 percent (29-of-72) from three-point range at home, but is just 31.1 percent (19-of-61) away from Alumni Hall. In addition, Navy is at 75.0 percent (48-of-64) at home from the free throw line, but just 70.7 percent (29-of-41) away from home.
Navy is shooting for its sixth straight non-conference home win, and needs just one win for 150 all-time at Alumni Hall.
