ANNAPOLIS, Md. --
For the second time in three weeks, Navy freshman Trey Stanton
was named the Patriot League men's basketball Rookie of the Week for his role in two Navy games last week. It marks the third time in five weeks that a Navy freshman has won the award after Chris Harris
earned the honor on Nov. 20, and Stanton won his first honor on Nov. 27.
Stanton, a 6-10 forward from Friendswood, Texas, averaged 11.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg last week, helping the Mids to a 1-1 record. In Navy's double-overtime win over Howard last Monday, Stanton scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting in 39 minutes of action. He added four rebounds and went 3-of-5 from three-point range. In last Thursday's loss to Penn, Stanton paced the Mids with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. He also contributed three rebounds, two blocks and two steals and went 2-of-5 from long distance. For the week, Stanton was 9-of-17 (.529) from the field, including 5-of-10 (.500) from three-point land.
Stanton is currently the league's top freshman scorer at 10.4 ppg. He has scored in double figures in five games this year and also adds 3.6 rpg, 0.8 apg, 0.6 bpg and 0.6 spg. He is shooting .500 percent (36-of-72) from the field, including a stellar .447 (17-of-38) from three-point range. He has scored 104 points so far this year, reaching 100 points in just his 10th game, making him the seventh Navy freshman to accomplish that feat.
The Mids, 7-3 overall, will be off for finals until Sunday, Dec. 17, for a 3:30 pm matinee against Delaware Valley College. The game is being promoted as "Meet The Mids", where t-shirts will be distributed for the first 100 kids, youth tickets are just $3 and fans can stick around after the game and meet all your favorite men's basketball players.
