"We are very excited to have John Flynn on the staff," said Friedrich. "He brings a wealth of experience and rowing knowledge to the program and will be instrumental in developing our depth and building the foundation of our team. John has a great rapport with the team already and everyone is looking forward to next season."
Flynn brings nearly 20 years of high school, collegiate and international rowing experience to the Naval Academy. Prior to volunteering at Navy, Flynn served as an assistant coach for the women's rowing team at the University of Minnesota from 2003-09. He also has collegiate coaching experience at Fairfield University (2002-03) and William & Mary (1994-95).
Flynn's international experience includes helping guide the 2002 U.S. National Team lightweight men's eight crew to a bronze medal at the World Rowing Championships. He served as assistant coach and manager at the for the U.S. lightweight men's selection camps from 2003-06. In 2003, he coached the lightweight men's four crew at the Pan American Games.

Flynn graduated from Cornell University in 1994 with a degree in education and went on to earn a Master of Arts in English Literature from William & Mary.
