Navy's heavyweight crew team placed 13th in the first varsity competition at the Eastern Association Rowing Colleges Regatta, Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The first varsity boat finished with a time of 5:49.02 in the third level final, a time that would have placed the Mids seventh in the grand final had the Mids advanced that far. In other competitions, Navy placed 10th in the second varsity, eighth in the first novice and third in the second novice.

"So much is decided by being in the right heat," said head coach Rick Clothier. "If our first varsity boat was in one of the other preliminary heats, we would have advanced to the petite final instead of the third level final."
