Mids Conclude Day One of IRA Championships

CAMDEN, N.J. - Navy's heavyweight crew team began
competition Thursday at the Intercollegiate Rowing
Association National Championship, being held on the
Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Among the eight Navy entries the most successful boat
on the first day for the Midshipmen was the novice
eight, which placed second in its heat and won its
repechage race to advance to Friday's semifinal. The
Mids finished four seconds in back of Washington in
the trial heat race, who crossed the finish line with
a time of 5:59.77. Navy then won its repechage race
with a time of 5:54.30.
Racing will continue Friday with semifinal and more
repechage events, and will conclude Saturday with all
championship races.
