Navy Crew Teams to Compete at Navy Day Regatta

|
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Each of the three Navy crew teams will be in action Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia as the programs take part in the annual Navy Day Regatta. It will be the first day of competitive racing this fall for the women's and men's heavyweight teams, while the men's lightweight team began its season last Sunday by winning the Occoquan Challenge.
Saturday, the crews will compete in a head race, or single file, format downstream on a 2.5-mile course. Each of the three Navy teams won their respective varsity divisions at the 2003 regatta.
"We look forward to measuring ourselves against other schools," said heavyweight head coach Rick Clothier.
"It is always a little harder to race against a clock, as opposed to another boat," said women's head coach Mike Hughes. "We are going to start first and will look to put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the field. It sould be a close race and I expect the winner to be the one who can stay tough throughout the course."
