Saturday marks the second competition of the fall for both the heavyweight and lightweight teams as the Mids raced at the Head of the Potomac on Sept. 24. At the event in Washington, D.C., Navy secured eight top-three finishes over four races. The women’s program will make their fall debut on Saturday. The Mids are coming off its fourth NCAA Championship appearance in program history this past May.
The Navy Day Regatta began in 1986 as a way to promote and support the U.S. Navy's birthday (Oct. 13, 1775), has seen Midshipmen crews perform well year-in and year-out. At the 2016 regatta, the three Navy teams combined to win two events, in addition to 12 top-three results. The women’s novice eight won its respective race, while the lightweight freshmen four conquered the Schuylkill River course in first place of the men’s collegiate freshmen/novice four.
The Navy Day Regatta will serve as a final tune-up for Navy's top heavyweight and lightweights boats before heading to Boston next weekend for the Head of the Charles Regatta.
