ANNAPOLIS, MD. -- The Navy crew programs will be in action at two different races this weekend, with the heavyweight and women's team competing Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia and the lightweights racing Sunday at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J.

The Navy women's team saw its varsity boat place 11th overall and ninth among U.S. college teams in the championship eight race at last weekend's Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The placing was the highest in the program's history at the event.

"We will face another strong field this weekend," said Navy women's head coach Mike Hushes. "It is not as deep as we saw last week at the Head of the Charles, but still very talented. We will have to be sharp and aggressive and on our toes during the race."

The Mids won the championship eight race and placed second in the club eight race at the 2005 Head of the Schuylkill.

Navy's heavyweight team returns to the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta this year after a one-year absence from the event. The Mids placed third in the championship eight race and won the club eight race during their last visit at the 2004 event.

"The championship eight event includes two crews from the U.S. National team, as well as from the Penn Athletic Club and the New York Athletic Club," said Navy heavyweight head coach Rick Clothier. "All of these crews are comprised of elite oarsmen with international backgrounds and should be quite fast."

Navy's lightweight team will look to improve upon its second-place finish in the championship eight race at the 2005 Princeton Chase.

"We are very excited to bring our entire varsity squad to Princeton this Sunday," said Navy lightweight head coach Rob Friedrich. "The Princeton Chase is the highlight of our fall racing season because it is a well-run regatta and gives our lower boats a chance to compare themselves with the rest of our league. It is also a great opportunity to race twice in our eight and four-man boats. We are hoping to see better results out of our top four-man boat than the past few years and finish the fall season on a high note."
