Lightweight Rowing Falls to Princeton in Spring Debut
Navy won two of five races on Saturday.

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Navy lightweight rowing team opened its 2013 spring schedule on Saturday against the Princeton Tigers on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The Tigers retained the Murtaugh Cup, winning the varsity race, and also won the second varsity and freshman competitions.
The two varsity crews were even through the first quarter of the race, but the Tigers pulled ahead at the halfway point and then extended their lead with 500 meters to go. Princeton's varsity crew finished with a time of 6:26.2, while the Mids clocked a time of 6:35.4.
Navy started the morning with wins in both the third and fourth varsity races. The Mids cruised in the fourth varsity race, posting a time of 7:05.8, easily topping Princeton's 7:51.1. In the third varsity race that followed, Navy also led comfortably from wire to wire, posting a time of 6:44.9. The Tigers crossed the finish line in 6:57.0.
The first freshman crews were separated by about three seconds at the halfway point of their race and it remained so with 500 meters to go. But the Mids just weren't able to pull any closer as the Tigers turned in a 6:27.2 and Navy a time of 6:30.9 in what was the closest race of the day.
In the second-to-last race of the day, Princeton's second varsity topped Navy's second varsity crew, 6:22.4-6:34.0.
Navy will return to Princeton, N.J., next weekend to take on Yale. The Mids and Bulldogs will meet on Saturday at 3 p.m.
