Lightweight Rowers Split Four Races With Columbia
Navy's varsity eight fell to 0-3 on the season with Saturday's loss.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy lightweight rowing team held the first of two home races this spring on Saturday morning, taking on Columbia. The Mids won both the varsity four and third varsity eight races, but fell in the varsity and second varsity eight competitions.
Racing on the Severn River began with the second varsity crews. The Lions won the race by a margin of 5:53-5:59.9. The first varsity race followed and the Lions were again able to hold off a Navy charge, crossing the finish line in 5:46.3, just ahead of Navy's time of 5:50.9.
The Midshipmen then picked up their first win of the morning in the varsity four race. Navy's `A' and `B' crews took the top-two spots, with the `A' boat clocking a time of 6:55.8, followed by the `B' with a time of 6:57.2. The two crews easily topped the Lions' boat, which crossed the finish line in 7:10.2.
Navy's third varsity eight and freshman eight battled in the final race of the day. The third varsity just edged the freshman boat at the finish line, 6:01-6:01.9. Columbia's third varsity registered a time of 6:18.1.
The Mids will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face Georgetown.
