Despite racing against heavyweight teams, the Navy lightweight crew team placed first and second in the first varsity race, as well as first in the first novice race, Sunday at the Occoquan Sprints in Occoquan, Va.
"It was a great day," said Navy head coach Rob Friedrich. "This was a great tuneup for our league opener, coming up Saturday on the Severn River against Princeton."
The first varsity boat finished with a time of 5:53 to win the race, five seconds ahead of Navy's second varsity boat. The pair of Navy entries finished ahead of Drexel (6:03) and George Mason.
Navy also saw both of its freshmen boats win their races on the day, as well as seeing its third varsity team place second in the second varsity race.
