ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy lightweight rowing team will join the heavyweight and women's teams in Washington, D.C., this weekend as the Mids will take on Georgetown on Saturday. Racing on the Potomac River will begin at 11 a.m. with the freshman eight race. The varsity four will follow at 11:20 a.m. and then the second and third varsity eight boats will race at 11:40 a.m. The varsity eights will compete at noon.
Last year against Georgetown, Navy won three of four races, but fell in the varsity eight by five seconds. The Mids' second varsity, first and second freshman crews and four boats all easily topped the Hoyas.
"Georgetown had a very good crew last year," said Navy head coach Steve Perry. "Hopefully we can be better this weekend and come away with a win."
The varsity crew is looking for its first victory of the season after coming up short against Princeton, Yale and Columbia. Columbia defeated Navy last weekend on the Severn River by just over a boat length. The second varsity also fell to the Lions last weekend, while Navy's two varsity four crews were victorious, as was the third varsity eight.
Next weekend Navy will travel to Harvard.
