Lightweight Crew Holds Off Georgetown

Navy's lightweight crew team posted a nine-second victory over Georgetown in the first varsity race at the George Washington Invitational, Saturday in Washington, D.C.
The Mids crossed the finish line in a time of 5:25.9, while the Hoyas finished with a time of 5:34.93. Navy also entered a second boat in the first varsity race, and it placed third with a time of 5:35.19.
In the second varsity race, Navy's 'A' boat overcame some oar problems to win the race with a time of 5:26.5, ahead of a second Navy boat at 5:30.22 and Georgetown at 5:31.21. In the first novice race, Navy held the lead until the last 500 meters when the Hoyas made a late push to defeat the Mids by just over one second. Georgetown finished the race with a time of 5:16.5, while Navy had a time of 5:17.77.
Navy will race Saturday at Harvard.
