It will be a busy weekend for the Navy crew programs, with two teams racing Saturday morning on the Severn River and the third team competing on the road.

The lightweight and women's teams will be in action Saturday on the Severn River starting at 6:30 a.m., with lightweights racing against Harvard and the women's squad playing host to MIT.

Each of the Navy lightweight boats are ranked among the top-three teams in the latest Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges poll, released this week. The first novice boat is ranked first, the first varsity and second novice boats are ranked second, and the second varsity boat is ranked third. Navy's foe this weekend -- Harvard -- is ranked third in the second novice rankings, fifth among second varsity boats and sixth in both the first varsity and first novice rankings.

Navy's women's boats also have several high rankings amongst Eastern Association of Women's Rowing College teams. Navy's first novice boat, which was undefeated on the season until last weekend, is ranked sixth, the second novice team is ranked ninth, the first varsity is ranked 12th and the second varsity is ranked 14th. MIT has its first varsity boat ranked eighth in the EAWRC poll, while its second varsity boat is ranked 17th.

"We're very excited to end our regular season on our home course, in front of a home crowd," said Navy women's novice coach Heather Putnam. "In addition to racing hard against MIT, we'll be using this opportunity to hone our racing skills and race plans for the Eastern Sprints championship in two weeks."

While this will be the final regular-season meet for the Navy women's team, the lightweight squad will close its regular season May 12 at Pennsylvania.

Navy's heavyweight team will also take to the water Saturday when it races against Princeton, Yale and Cornell on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. This is a makeup race for the Mids, who saw their March 30 race against Princeton canceled due to poor water conditions on the Severn River.

Navy's first novice boat, which enters Saturday's regular-season finale with an undefeated record, is ranked second among EARC teams. In addition, Navy's first varsity boat is ranked 10th, while the second varsity boat is ranked ninth. Princeton is ranked fifth in the first varsity poll, third in the second varsity rankings and first in the first novice poll. Cornell's first varsity boat is ranked eighth, its second varsity boat is ranked sixth and its first novice boat is ranked eighth. Yale is ranked ninth amongst first varsity teams, seventh in the second varsity rankings and sixth in the first novice poll.

"This weekend is a great opportunity for us to race against some quality opponents," said Navy heavyweight novice coach Chris Allsopp. "With a good day of racing we can raise our seeding for the Eastern Sprints in a few weeks."
