ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy's lightweight crew team won the first varsity race over Pennsylvania to win back the Callow Cup, Saturday morning on the Severn River in Annapolis, Md.

Navy posted a winning time of 6:12.5 in the first varsity race to defeat Penn by over eight seconds. Saturday's victory marks the first time in four years the Mids have defeated the Quakers in the Callow Cup race.

"It's nice to have the Cup back in Annapolis for another year," said Navy head coach Dale Hurley. "To make the day even better, we had strong performances from all of our other boats, as well."

Navy swept all four races from Pennsylvania on the day. Navy placed 1-2-3 in the junior varsity race, with Navy's third varsity boat winning with a time of 6:09.8. The Mids also crossed the finish line in first and second place in the novice race, and won the novice four race by 13 seconds.

"It was very rough water out there today," said Hurley. "It was power-style racing and that is one of our strengths. We were able to slug our way through the chop and get the victories."

Navy will be back in action in two weeks when the Mids compete at the Eastern Sprint Championship.

"The Easterns will be very tough," said Hurley. "But we have two weeks to get some good training and rest in before then, which will help us out a lot."
