Lightweight Crew Team To Dedicate Shell
Links associated with this release: ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy's lightweight crew team will dedicate it's newest shell - the Mark Hamilton '87 - Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hubbard Hall. The dedication ceremony will be preceded by the lightweight race between Navy and Pennsylvania, as well as the women's race between Navy and MIT. A 1987 graduate of the Naval Academy, Mark Hamilton was a four-year member of the lightweight crew team. He was elected team captain as a senior and his boat won the varsity petite final at the '87 EARC Sprints. He would go on to earn the "Spirit of the Lightweights" award for his leadership and enthusiasm. After graduating with a degree in aerospace engineering, Hamilton went on to become a naval flight officer and was assigned to VP-50 NAS Moffett Field in September of 1989. A native of Cedarburg, Wis., Lt. Hamilton was killed while flying a training mission off the coast of Southern California on March 21, 1991. The shell was donated by Mark's parents, Tom and Janet Hamilton.
