ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy lightweight crew team will attempt to tie a series record by winning the Callow Cup for the seventh-straight time Sunday morning when the Mids face Penn on the Severn River. Following the conclusion of the men's races, the Navy women's crew team will compete in three races against Washington College.

"After five-straight weekends of tight racing, it was nice to have two weeks to train and prepare for Penn this week and next week's Eastern Sprints," said Navy lightweight head coach Rob Friedrich. "As all of the league's races have been, I expect the Penn race to be a hard-fought battle. It will be a great test for all of our crews as we get ready for the league championship."

The Callow Cup, named after Rusty Callow who coached at both schools, has been presented annually since 1955 to the winner of the varsity race between the Mids and the Quakers. Both schools have one seven-race winning streak to their credit, with Navy's coming from 1956-62 and Penn's taking place from 1974-80, and each has totaled 26 overall victories in the series.

Navy's varsity boat enters the weekend after dropping a six-tenths of a second dual to Harvard two weeks ago in Boston.

Navy's women's team will close its regular season Sunday against Washington College. The Mids are looking to bounce back from last week's second-place finish at the Patriot League Championship, as well as prepare themselves for next week's Eastern Sprints Championship.
